A pet peeve of mine that I have gotten better about, is how people spell my name. You would think that if they had any powers of observation that after seeing me write it a few times, they would understand that it was Hillery with an "E" not at "A." But most people don't. I always feel that we are better friends if they recognize how my name is spelled. In turn I try to always find out how people's names are spelled and then spell them correctly on correspondence.
When my mom was looking for names when she was pregnant with me, she liked the name Hillary. While doing research she found that Hilary was supposedly the masculine form of the name, as it had originally been an English surname. Hillery was the feminine form of the name. Where she found this I don't know, but subsequently I became Hillery with an "e". So far I have met no one else with this spelling. In my own little amount of looking into the spelling, it seems that Hillery comes from the German instead of English. From the German Hildegarde it means "woman warrior" where in English it means "cheerful." Interesting.
Then we decided to name our daughter Gabbie and spell it with "ie" on the end, but most people use a "y". Then with David we decided to spell Davy with a "y" yet most people (mainly family) spell it "ey". It is amazing with these decisions how picky people become and how opinionated your family is on the choices. Everyone thinks they should have a say in what you name your child.
Okay, enough ranting. Tell me your experiences.

I bet Jami and Mom have had a lot of trouble with people spelling their names.
I'm always worried that I'll spell Gabbie or Davy's names wrong... I either search my email to see how you spelled it, or just write, "your daughter or your kids or your boy..."
Actually what is worse is when I'm talking to an acquaintance on the phone and I can't remember their kids' names... I hate that.
