CrossStitch Madness

Okay, so my friend Amber has been working on a cross-stitch blanket for like 10 years. She got it out again a couple of months ago and decided that this time she was going to work on it until it was done. She has persevered and it is almost done! In fact she has bought another blanket to work on after she is finished with this one! Good for her!

Well, since I have been sitting a lot with my feet up lately (swelling feet are not fun), I had helped Amber work on her blanket so I could pass the time and keep my hands busy. Well on Monday I decided to go buy my own project instead of always stealing hers!

I bought one of those silly wall hangings that I have made fun of before. But it isn't completely useless, it will have Davy's birthday and weight and everything on it, and it will match their bedroom pretty well. It has stars and a sunshine and such on it. Thing is, it is a counted cross-stitch, while Amber's was a prestamped.

Difference? Amber's has little blue lines that show you exactly where to stitch everything! Mine is a small piece of blank fabric with tons of tiny holes in it. You have to look at a "map" of sorts to see where each color should go and then "count" the little squares on the fabric to find where you should put one of the three yellows! But I have to admit, though it is crazy, I am obsessed. It relaxes me in a weird way. See, I have control issues, and right now, my body is out of my control, and so is a majority of my house. I can't control Gabbie throwing all of her toys on the floor, or my husband leaving out dirty dishes (maybe I could try, but why?). But I can be in control of this little piece of fabric with tiny colorful threads making themselves into a picture. It satisfies my nesting and control issues. Problem, it does not satisfy hungry tummys or change diapers!

I have a cross stitch project I started over 5 years ago. I think my eyes went bad or something, I can't focus on those little tiny holes. I need help finishing the eyes on one precious moments angel.

You should see the stuff Mom has done. She used to do counted cross stitch all the time.

Mom, if you're reading this. Scan some of your garden stuff and email it to Hillery.

Guess what I did in between telling Gabbie to go get back in her bed over and over? Worked on my project! I must have counted wrong on one part, but it is still okay, that is one reason why I like being creative, I can always fudge a little.

My stuff is still in storage.

Cross stitch was a form of escape. No one but you will ever know of the places you miscounted. I guess I will have to start again. I just don't know what to do with the finished projects.

Isn't it amazing the forms of escape we make for ourselves? Today I have been dying to pick up my thread and needle again, but feel like I should be doing something "productive" yet I'm so tired, I haven't done that either! Yes, cross stitch is my current escape, time to think, reflect and plan for the future. or just let my thoughts be absorbed in counting tiny squares!
